Joe Kennedy defeated mainly in the US Senate

The American political dynasty of the assassinated president John F. Kennedy lost for the first time a state election in Massachusetts when Congressman Joe Kennedy, long seen as a rising star, crashed to defeat Tuesday in his bid for a US Senate seat.

Incumbent Senator Ed Markey, a political figure who re-cast himself into the race as the fiery liberal, harnessed the progressive energy of the state to handily beat back a primary challenge from John F Kennedy’s grandnephew Joseph Kennedy .

Kennedy, 39, said he called Markey in the months ahead “to congratulate him, and to pledge my support.”
