Khalilzad, the US special envoy to Afghanistan, has resigned amid a “new phase of Afghan strategy.”

Zalmay Khalilzad, the US Special Envoy for Afghan Reconciliation, has tendered his resignation and stated that he will reveal the reasons for his decision in the coming days.

Khalilzad defended his record in a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, but admitted that he fell short and expressed his desire to step aside during the “new phase of our Afghanistan policy.”
